Girls and Cars

Published by Richard under Relatonships/Sex

I saw an average looking woman driving a Porsche the other day.  The Porsche was incredible, but the woman driving it remained average.

If the situation was reversed, and I were a woman looking at a man driving a Porsche, the car would remain incredible, but the man driving it might also become better looking. Continue Reading »

Californication Season II Premiere: The Return of Hank Moody

Published by Richard under Entertainment

californication season ii premiere reviewAll television shows make you some sort of promise.  With the first season of Californication, Showtime promised us a show about a struggling writer who beds many women and generally leads an intemperate life all in an effort to escape his true heart, which is with Karen, the mother of his daughter.

As I wrote in Californication: Showtime’s Raison d’etre, this was one hell of a first season, and the only reason that you need to get a subscription to Showtime. Continue Reading »

I Wish I Was Divorced

Published by Richard under Relatonships/Sex

online dating after divorceI really hope that my wife does not read this!  But, as I see my friends getting divorced, they seem so happy.  They have their kids, their guy friends, lots of girlfriends, and the sympathy of the world.  After the initial pain of the divorce, they invariably say:  “This divorce thing is great.  I wish I had thought of it sooner.” Continue Reading »

What John McCain Can Learn from Boo Weekley

Published by Richard under Essays, Politics, Sports

boo weekley ryder cup victoryLast Sunday, I watched the U.S.A. win the Ryder Cup, a victory spearheaded by an unlikely individual named Boo Weekley, a victory that made all who watched proud of our Americans, and our America.  We saw all of the characteristics that made our country great:  tenacity, teamwork, honesty, competitiveness, friendship, and fun, lots of fun.  I felt great.

Later that same night, I watched 60 minutes which featured an interview with John McCain.  This depressed meContinue Reading »

How To Use Photoshop to Make Yourself Look Like a Model

I attended a wedding a few weeks ago but I forgot my camera.  My friend Sarah said that she would send me all of the photos from her camera after she “touched herself up.”

“Touch yourself up?” I asked.

“Oh,” she responded, “I never upload pictures before I make myself look better.” Continue Reading »

Uruguay (The Vices): Gambling, Prostitution, and Drugs

Published by Richard under Living in Uruguay

There are three things that are legal (well, one is semi-legal) in Uruguay that you may not be able to do at home:  Gambling, Prostitution, and Drugs.  With such vice-availability, I began to call Uruguay The Amsterdam of South America

Gambling in Uruguay

gamble in montevideo uruguayBack in the good ole’ USA, I have been to Las Vegas a time or two, or three, or more, but who’s counting.   And so, as I was reading up on Uruguay before I visited, I had read that casinos are legal in Uruguay.

I’ll have to be mindful of this one, I thought.  I am going to South America to experience the culture, the people, the history…not another casino.  However, like any good investigative journalist, I had to take one for the team just to report back to you, the reader.  Continue Reading »

Dave Matthews and Friends: Let’s Cruise Again

Published by Richard under Music

pic of dave matthews and friends cruiseWhen I heard the news a few weeks ago about the untimely death of LeRoi Moore, it shocked and saddened me.  LeRoi is a founding member of The Dave Matthews Band.  I did not know him personally but, personally, he has given me so much joy.

Really, what more can one accomplish in life?  LeRoi and the DMB Band have given this joy to hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people.  It is fair to say that the people in the picture above, all enjoying the Dave Matthews and Friends cruise, would never have had that moment were not for LeRoi Moore, founding member of the Dave Matthews band.
